Theseus (Aleksandra Cupiał, Szymon Parafiniak), Terra III, 2021, stainless steel, granite, dimensions: 30.5 x 24 x 28 cm, signed: THESEUS "TERRA III" MMXXI stainless steel GRANITE
BIO:
An art collective established by Aleksandra Cupiał and Szymon Parafiniak in 2016, they work in painting, printmaking, sculpture and video. They focus their artistic explorations around energy, light and movement, with the labyrinth sign as the leitmotif of their work. Starting in 2019, they are realizing the series "ELEMENTA" inspired by Empedocles' ancient Greek concept of the elements and Plato's regular polyhedrons.
"The elements present in Theseus' art raise questions about our cognitive capabilities, just as light does not penetrate the area of shadow, so cognition and understanding (gnosis) seem helpless in the face of contents and truths hidden from us. Therefore, it is important to be aware that we are not talking about absolute values as in the case of brightness or darkness, but about their symbolic-sign representation. Thanks to Theseus' artifacts, it turns out how capacious the sign of the labyrinth is, it leads towards the meanders of inquiry and our path, it illustrates at the same time getting lost and trying to get out." - Piotr Glowacki
